....in an atmosphere of disorder and chaos, true freedom can never exist; that is the primary reason for the foundation and existence of the Salem Police Department. We are truly servants of our citizens.

In addition to its main objective of policing, the Salem Police Department extends its service in many ways. This includes D.A.R.E. program in our schools, Citizens Academy, Crime Prevention, and participation in the Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy.

The D.A.R.E. program is a way the officers of the Department can create a positive relationship with the young citizens by working and interacting with the children in our schools. The Citizens Academy educates people on various aspects of each unit within the department. The Officers and Civilian employees strive to maintain their high standards of service in part by continuing their education, as well as assist other localities with instruction, through the Cardinal Criminal Justice Academy.
