| The Patrol Division is commanded by a Captain and is composed of four platoons, each supervised by a Lieutenant and Sergeant. Each platoon is assigned seven patrol officers. The Division answered 18,836 complaints, examined 11,162 operator's licenses, issued 3,399 summonses, executed 116 juvenile intakes, served 1,183 warrants, 605 subpoenas, and made 1,031 arrests. The Patrol Division investigated 756 traffic crashes involving 166 personal injuries. The department's average response time on each complaint was 4.0 minutes. The department patrolled 501,074 miles during the fiscal year. During this past year patrol officers provided 234 funeral escorts. The department as a work ethic has a positive attitude toward providing personal service to our citizens. Patrol officers, using door-opening tools, assisted 1,417 persons who had inadvertently locked keys in their cars. Fees are not assessed for escorts or opening vehicles. The Salem Police Department is the only Roanoke Valley agency which provides these services without charge. | |||
