The Detective Division is supervised by a lieutenant and sergeant with five detectives assigned to general investigation.  The Special Investigations Unit continues to assist the Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force and the Virginia State Police Drug Unit to stem the flow of narcotics in the Valley.  The Detective Division arrested or assisted in the arrest of 667 persons, executed 73 juvenile intakes or petitions, issued 9 summonses, and answered 1,612 complaints.

             The detectives received additional training through the year to include: Virginia Forensic Academy Retraining Seminar held in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Administrative Officers Management Program in Raleigh, North Carolina, International Motorcycle Gang Investigation Conference in Nasha, New Hampshire. Advanced Ridgeology Seminar in Gastonia, North Carolina, Homicide Investigation Skills Workshop.  Homicide Investigation Skills Workshop, Smith & Wesson Pistol Armorer School in Greenville, South Carolina, Financial Investigative Techniques Seminar, Auto Theft Investigators Seminar in Hampton, Virginia.  All detectives attended the required in-service training.
