Deputy Chief of Police J. A. Dudley

1995 to Present

 

     Captain Jeffery A. Dudley began his career with the Salem Police Department in May 1977 as a Police Dispatcher.  He was appointed to the position of Police Officer in April 1978 and assigned to the Patrol Division.  After completing field service and a six year stint within the Detective Division in 1989, Dudley was promoted to the rank of Police Sergeant and assigned to the Services Division, the central supply and support component of the Salem Police Department.

     Later in 1991, Captain Dudley returned to the Patrol Division as a front line supervisor.  On January 1, 1994 he was promoted to the rank of Police Lieutenant in charge of the Services Division.  As of November 1, 1995 he was appointed Deputy Chief of Police with the rank of Captain and currently serves in this capacity.

     Captain Dudley is a graduate of the 184th session of the FBI National Academy and the 19th session of the Virginia Forensic Science Academy.  He has completed numerous police training schools and seminars in police management and investigative practices.

     A Roanoke County native, Captain Dudley graduated from Northside High School and completed requirements for his AAS Degree in Administration of Justice from Virginia Western Community College.  He earned a Bachelor's Degree from Radford University and is currently pursuing post-graduate studies.  NASCAR racing and travel are among his favorite pastimes.
